The past couple of weeks have been super busy for me, leaving me MIA here on SGLSF. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been checking in on what’s been happening around the web and in the SciFi community. Here is some of the news I’ve been following.
SFR Book Releases
Heather Massey at The Galaxy Express recently did a good round-up of SciFi Romance book releases slated for March. I’d like to give special mention to two of those releases.
First, Heather’s own Once Upon a Time in Space is officially out. She also has, Heroes Are Forever, a near-future science fiction romance available free on her website.
Second, Spice ‘n’ Solace by K. C. Burn is out. K.C. is one of my writers group friends and one terrific lady. If you like M/M Erotic SFR, be sure to check it out.
Notable Reviews
Mervi recently reviewed Amanda Quick’s Second Sight, one of her historical set Arcane Society novels. I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that AQ, aka Jayne Ann Krentz, aka Jayne Castle, is one of my comfort reads. Mervi also reviewed one of my favorite classics, Bram Stoker’s Dracula. If you’ve never read it, check out Mervi’s review.
Also notable, Dear Author reviewed two SciFi Romance titles today. Nice to see SFR coverage on such a popular review site.
TV News
SciFi Chick posted a first look at FOX’s new series, Terra Nova. The series is slated to air a preview in May 2011, with the series continuing in the Fall.
SGU returned to the SyFy channel. Currently, it’s airing Mondays 10/9c, but will be moving to 9/8c in April with the series finale on May 9th. I’ve seen the two new episodes aired in March and it picked back up with the same SciFi goodness it had achieved in the first half of the season. Lé sigh… Word is that all possibility of the canceled series being picked up by another network has died and the best case scenario would be a feature movie follow up. In the mean time, if you missed SGU’s return, some episodes are available on line.
The Event also returned at the end of February. I haven’t been watching, so I’d love to hear any reports on how it is going. It’s airing on NBC Mondays 9/8c.
I’ve been ignoring V, still waiting to hear if it will be renewed, and The Cape, which has definitely been canceled.
I’m still watching Fringe and loving it. I don’t always like where the show is going, but it is still the best SciFi I’ve been able to find on network TV.
Podcasts
I’ve been keeping up with all the usuals and re-listening to We’re Alive, the zombie audio drama. The most recent episodes have been phenomenal and the call backs to earlier episodes made me want to go back and see what I missed picking up on. It is just so well done, I can’t say enough about it.
They’ve also launched a fan podcast about the series called We’re Not Dead. The production quality on the fan-cast is shaky (as is the case with most new podcasts) but it does feature some great interviews with some of the voice talent from the audio drama.
I have been lurkily reading many of your blogs, but I’d love to hear more of what you’ve been up to. Any good scoopy SciFi news I’ve missed?
