The hubby has just put on Abraham Lincoln Vampire Killer. An oddly entrancing story of alternate reality and the paranormal. Or, as they officially billed it; a fantasy action horror. As I’m writing this movie is running, and there have been some slightly gory scenes so far. The depiction of the vampires is intriguing, definitely geared towards being horror.
This movie has me thinking about Alternate histories, realities and universes. I’ve always been curious about possibilities. Have you ever wondered what our history would look like if one event never happened? Or what about the existence of the paranormal beings? Abraham Lincoln takes on the existence of vampires and their part in the slave trade.
Which got me thinking, and eventually talking to the hubby about recommended books in the genre. This discussion caused me to look at my library and my To Be Read (TBR) pile. These are just a few. Any other suggestions? Any preferences?
A few alternate histories from my keeper shelves: the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik, the Lord Darcy Mysteries by Randall Garrett, The Peshawar Lancers by S.M. Stirling, the Small Change series by Jo Walton, and going way, way back, the Eden series by Harry Harrison. But then all sff books take us to an alternate reality, don’t they?
Alternate reality is where I live. Check out my new release, Dreamer—if you find the time. http://tinyurl.com/amazondreamer
