Vampires In Space

by Yolanda Sfetsos

Hi there. Firstly, I’d like to thank Smart Girls love SciFi for having me over here today. 🙂

My name is Yolanda, and I live in Australia. I write in a variety of genres, but all of my stories have a dash of the paranormal and skim very close to the dark. Today, I’m here to celebrate the release of the third book in my SFR series.

The Recast world features a bunch of smoking hot heroes and the strong women who love, and often rescue them. Each book highlights a new couple, but many of the characters crossover into each other’s books. I have to admit that I love doing that. Actually, the hero in Shiver is mentioned in the second book, Clash.

As soon as Knox made it on the page, I knew he had his own tale to tell. And that leads me to vampires. I’ve always loved vampire mythology. I often hear people say that vampires are a trend, but for me they’re always there in the background. I love writing and reading about vamps, but there’s one thing I haven’t seen much of. I’m pretty sure it’s already out there—somewhere—but I personally haven’t read any yet. What am I talking about? Stories featuring vampires in space. Not just thrown into a futuristic Earth setting or an alternate future situation, but actually travelling the stars and infecting their way across the galaxy.

When I created the Recast series I knew the galaxy would be populated with a bunch of supernatural and alien creatures, and I wanted vampires to be one of these races.

Shiver is the story of Eniell Knox, an arena fighter who is infected with vampirism. He faces a lot of obstacles, but dealing with the changes proves to be quite a challenge. Especially when his escape doesn’t go according to plan and he winds up in an icy, barren environment and thrown in the middle of a family dispute. And like most vampire stories, there’s a touch of passionate romance thrown in the mix.

I had a blast dropping a vampire into this world. Not only because I enjoyed telling Knox’s story, but also because it’s made way for other vampires in this series. 😉

So, do you like the idea of vampires in outer space? Personally, I think it’s cool to have them leading their bloodthirsty lives on alien planets, spaceships or space stations. The possibilities are endless… But that is a story for another day.

Thanks for reading,
Yolanda

About Shiver:

Blood made him a monster. Passion could be his salvation.

Recast, Book 3

After narrowly escaping brutal captivity in the Clash Arena and the bite of a bloodsucking creature, all Eniell Knox wants is to get off the crappy planet that ruined his life. When he steals an abandoned ship and is shot down over freezing northern Fray, he finds nothing but more trouble. An alluring young woman who stirs his hunger—and her shackle-happy mother—could push him over the edge.

Day after day, Lian Shan lives like a prisoner, fending off a parade of creepy potential husbands her mother tries to force upon her. She longs to experience life outside the confines of her ice castle and meet the man whose face haunts her dreams.

When a handsome, mysterious man crashes onto the estate her world breaks apart, spilling unfathomable secrets. Some of them her own.

Though Eniell and Lian’s mutual attraction explodes off any known star chart, there’s something her dreams left out—he’s been bitten by a monster. Which means if he turns into one, the first thing on his menu could be her neck…

Warning: This book contains shared temptation hot enough to melt ice caps, a warrior with a blood craving, a rebellious heroine who isn’t afraid to share hers, and the galaxy’s most dysfunctional family.

SHIVER is newly available from Samhain Publishing and is also available from amazon  and B&N

  1. Welcome.
I think it’s great when writers can mix tropes from SF(aliens) and fantasy(vampires) if they work it into the story and make the worlds consistent. Vampires clearly have widespread appeal.

  2. Congrats on your release!

Here are some books features a vampire hero in a space opera setting:

    BREAK OUT – Nina Croft
    TANGLED SHADOWS – Tina Christopher
MCLENDON’S SYNDROME (humorous; romantic SF) – Robert Frezza
THOSE OF MY BLOOD – Jacqueline Lichtenberg
JUST MY LUCK – Gail Koger
