It has been a long while since we had a SciFi Potpourri post and with out contest giveaway wrapping up, this seemed like the perfect time. Plus, I have a few newsy bits to share that have been hanging out in my inbox. This won’t actually be all SciFi, but you get the idea. So on to the potpourri…

Are you on GoodReads?
First, the big news is that we now have a GoodReads Group! You can join over on the sidebar widget thingy. To the right and down, down – yeah you probably have to scroll.

We actually started this mostly to keep track of who is reading what now that we so many awesome reviewers!!! KUDOS to SERENITY who has been madly shelving books for us.

But we are also going to be posting all out review requests, so you can check them out there even if we don’t get around to an actual review. Now, we will also occasionally be taking conversations from the blog and extending them there. And, if anybody out there would like to see this group turn into something more, just drop me a line to get involved on a discussion or group read leader level.

Comic Book WOMEN Needed
Ever heard of Comic Book Men? It is an AMC show that, according to their website “dives deep into fanboy culture by following the antics in and around master fanboy Kevin Smith’s New Jersey comic shop, Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash.”  I haven’t had a chance to check it our yet, but got a message recently from the very sweet Kate Corcoran, casting associate producer. She said

“We’re casting [for season three] for a few more weeks and would love to find people (specifically females) who are looking for some TV experience and would like to buy or sell any of their fun, valuable or unique items from comic books or pop culture at Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Shop in Red Bank, NJ!

New Adult SFR Book Release
A while back I had to turn down a tour and review request from the talented Kimberly Chase. Her book was NA and I try not to really push the younger side of the genre here as this site is very much geared toward adults and we also do Erotic Romance reviews, BUT her book is now out and NA is for adults  and I wanted to at least let you know. Local Super Saturday for Writers
Two of my local RWA chapters are having a thing for writers. Charlee’s Shameful Author Talk
Next a bit of personal news. Many of you know I write. I try not to talk about it too much here  because this site is really about my love of SciFi PNR in media and books and not about me, me, me. But I am currently getting ready to take my latest SFR out on submission to the big NY publishers. Anyone who knows the industry probably knows this is a loooong shot. That’s why I’d like to ask for all the positive energy you can send my way. I also just created an author FaceBook page and I’d be grateful if you’d stop by and Like it.

If you are already annoyed, please skip down to the next section now. 😉 On with more shameful author talk… I’m also looking to sign up anyone willing to do any of the following: beta read for the series, review the book when it’s available, join in joint promotions (if you are an author), join a street team to promote the series and other SFR among readers. I know this probably seems premature, but I’m putting together a marketing/platform doc to go with the submission.
