For months now, I have been looking forward to the new movie version of The Green Lantern. An alien powered superhero seemed like a bright star on the horizon. Sadly, my plans for seeing the movie this weekend have gone awry. So, I’ll wrap up Aliens Week by pointing you to my trusted reviewer, who might be said to think I’ve gotten lucky to be missing out on seeing The Green Lantern, and suggesting some interesting alien movies that might be worth digging up.
Alien Nation, James Caan and Mandy Patinkin star in this aliens fell to earth/buddy cop movie that reflects the war on drugs mentality of the 1980s. It spawned a so-so TV series that lacked the grit of the movie, but still managed to be a bit entertaining.
Enemy Mine, Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr. star as enemies stranded together. This thoughtful movies explores the relationship between two individuals who must rely on each other for survival and discover a deep respect despite their differences.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Richard Dreyfuss delivered a memorable performance in this 1977 Spielberg film. This film didn’t much focus on the aliens, but it captured the wonder at the possibility of them.
I hope everyone enjoyed talking aliens this week! Thanks for joining the discussion.
One of our all time favorite movies that we pull out now and again is “Enemy Mine”, not only was that one worth watching a young Dennis Quaid flash his famous crooked grin but it was a real “sleeper” that took quite a few people by surprise and is now a cult classic for Sci-Fi/Alien flick lovers Charlie… Close Encounters goes without saying that it ranks up there with ET for one of my favorite Spielburgs…
Oh wow, I’m your “trusted reviewer”? What a huge honour! 😀
