Favorite Aliens – Open Thread

I love alien characters. From Todd the Wraith in Stargate Atlantis, to the Predator, to Arion in Catherine Spanlger’s Shadow Fires and Yara in Jess Granger’s Beyond the Shadows. Clearly, I’ve talked a lot about them on this blog. Now it is your turn.

Who’s your favorite alien and why?

  1. MY favs are the Martians in Mars Attacks! I think all aliens want to kill us, so we have to kill them first. Oddly enough it was films like E.T and Close Encounters that brought me to this view. The idea that alternate life forms want to be our friends makes me laugh. And I did laugh in Mars Attacks! when the Martians went around saying “We come in peace” while blowing everyone away.

This view probably reveals something about my twisted psyche, but let’s not go there. LOL

  2. Television-wise, I would have to say I love Todd the Wraith. Although… I love all the aliens in the Star Trek universe. But then there’s Garrus and Thane from Mass Effect! I couldn’t possible choose my top favorite, Charlie. x_x

    • Todd is an excellent choice! I’ve not played Mass Effect, but saw enough of it over Nick’s shoulder to think it would be really cool if I could make the time. I kinda miss the days when I could play – even if I was terrible. 😉

  3. Definitely the Alien from the movie “Alien”! It’s so scary and its blood is acid! I love the Predator too… I can watch any Alien or Predator movie again no matter how bad it is, haha 🙂

    • I love those movies too — event the bad ones! 😉

I love the Predator most of all. Love that warrior culture thing they have going on.

  4. My favorite alien character is Jadzia Dax from Star Trek: DS9. She’s a competent, intelligent Starfleet officer who can fight with a Klingon on an equal footing. Yet, she isn’t afraid to show her more feminine side. Just like Kira Nerys from the same show, she’s given subplots that aren’t “womanly” (pregnancy and dating). Instead, she can go on a mission to retrieve a Klingon relic or play Tonga better the the Ferengi. Yep, that’s how you write a female character!

  5. I don’t have a favorite alien, but I was rather taken with the alien in Starman.

    Ref: Mars Attacks
Oy! My husband tortures me with his rendition of Martian-speak. I can’t watch that movie unless he ties me to a chair. LOL.

  6. Ooh… I’m torn. I’m tempted to say the Arachnids from Starship Troopers, simply do to the unavoidible symbolism in the Brain-bug…. but if pushed I think I’d have to say the aliens in Galaxy Quest.

      • That’s it!

Actually, the female one who fell in love with Monk… er… the Engineer, probably also qualifies as one of my favorite female aliens. After all, she’s competent (not quite Maple Syrup candy level, but at least as competant as anyone else in that movie was) and manages to be both attractive AND have Tenticles. Not easy to pull off.
