Even SciFi canโ€™t make me like Family Guy.

Iโ€™ve always thought SciFi was like cheese or sugar. It makes anything more palatable. This week I was proved wrong.

Iโ€™m not a Family Guy fanโ€”sorry, just not my taste in humorโ€”but when my son brought home Family Guy โ€“ Blue Harvest and Family Guy โ€“ Something, Something, Something Dark Side I agreed to watch them. While I found a few of the jokes funny, overall it was odious. Not even Star Wars could make Family Guy entertaining for me. Sad.

I especially didnโ€™t like the way they made Leia look bad at every turn. ย And, according to my son, some of the more unappealing jokes werenโ€™t aired on TV. Thank goodness.

I think humor is even more subjective than most types of fiction. I know lots of people love Family Guy, but I just donโ€™t find it funny. ย I don’t normally consider myself a prude or a defender of moral correctness, but the jokes more oftenย make me shake my headย than laugh. Iโ€™m just hoping Iโ€™m never forced to watch a Family Guy version of the Trek movies.

So, do you like Family Guy? Have you seen the Star Wars specials? If so, what did you think? What do you think makes humor work for some and not others?

Do not like them at all.

I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt in the beginning, but they cross the line way too often. That sort of stuff gets old fast.

@Stephanie and @Maria – Thanks for making me feel like maybe I’m not crazy. Terrible thing to happen to Star Wars – imho.

But, I’m sure there must be some fans lurking. Speak up! All sides welcome.

Not a fan, either. Glad I’m not the only one. And I love a good lampooning, generally. It’s interesting how humor differs with people. Sometime I’ll laugh loudly at a joke and am the only one. I don’t like that so much, either. LOL

Hi Sally! Thanks for the support. I know that feeling of dancing to a different drummer, all too well.

I’m okay with Family Guy, but I don’t go out of my way to watch it. I didn’t see the Star Wars one, but I did see it on Robot Chicken and about peed myself laughing. ๐Ÿ™‚ I also saw Star Trek on the Simpsons and that was pretty good.

So I like base humor. What can I say? *grin*

Haven’t seen robot chicken, but would like to check it out. I’ve always liked Seth G.

I’ve seen a few episodes of The Family Guy and about the only thing I like about it is the child meglomaniac, but even his lines get old real quick.

Nope, Charlie, you’re not the only one. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sorry, that was me. One day I’ll keep track of my logins…

Two words: Ton-ton Christmas. Anyone seen this? It was an amateur short that won a contest, and it is funny, cute and Star Wars. Also, I liked the storm trooper/Cops mash-up. But for the most part, I agreed. Shows that rely on adolescent humor shouldn’t take on Star Wars and Sci-Fi. Unless, of course, you’re a Hitchhiker.

I do like family guy, though I’m not always in the mood for it ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you seen the Star Wars specials? Any favorites?

No I haven’t seen the Star Wars specials. I can’t really think of any episodes either! It’s a casual watch. Not like I can name any op te episodes like I can with Fringe XD

I’ve tried – forced myself to watch snippets. The show does not appeal to me at all.
