Captured by the Cyborg was my introduction to Cara Bristol’s Cy-Ops series. Third in the series, this standalone short novel is a fun read and hits all the right buttons for the SciFi Romance reader. There is a sexy hero, beautiful heroine, powerful attraction and for the icing on the cake, an insane ex-husband.
Running from her ex, Illumina Smith is lucky to land a job working at a super-secret factory, below the surface of the moon Deceptio. She is hired to find the bug in the current pet project of owner Dale Homme, and as a computer sensate, she can deliver. Dale is a retired Cy-Ops agent and his cyber parts speak to the computer sensate Illumina, almost before their mutual attraction takes hold. That attraction will have to be ignored though. Dale doesn’t date employees and Illumina – well she has too many secrets.
I’m sure you know that ignoring their attraction will not last long. There is a sweet and sexy romance that follows. I especially enjoyed a scene where they took a test ride in a new ship. But all good things must come to, if not an end, at least an interruption. Still looking for Illumina is the crazy ex-husband who insists that “anyone who assists you will suffer“.
The uncomplicated plot about Illumina overcoming her ex-husband’s attack and pursuit fits nicely in the novel length. The hero and heroine are both very likeable and the villain is insane. I kind of like an insane villain in a book. You never know what they are up to.
I love the name of Dale’s business – Moonbeam Chop Shop. It makes me think of a couple of reality shows where they take rusty old cars and turn them into works of art. There’s an idea for a futuristic reality show. I don’t think Dale Homme has any interest in smiling for the camera though.
For me, Captured by the Cyborg hit the spot right after I had read a long, complicated novel. In effect – it was a lovely palette cleanser. No matter what your most recent read though, Captured by the Cyborg is recommended for those of you that enjoy cyborg heroes, short novels and SciFi Romance.
