    Here’s Kate…

I’ve always loved to watch science fiction shows on T.V. and at the movies. I also love to write them because—let’s be honest here—you can make up your own rules. The likelihood of some citizen of Planet Mitan or Valhalla contacting me and pointing out that their mating habits are quite different to how I portrayed them is fairly slim.

One of the other issues with writing science fiction erotic romance or erotica is that despite all the warnings plastered over my books some readers want more science, and get quite disappointed when it’s all about the sex and the love. I love science, and when I do include it in my books I do my very best to make sure it’s as accurate as possible. That’s why I prefer to make stuff up because someone will always say you’ve got it wrong.

Science fiction romance is the red-haired stepchild of both romance and science fiction. Neither side really wants to completely own it, and erotica science fiction horror? With tentacles? Well, I think I finally managed to write something that three different genres won’t like. My editor described it as Anne Rice’s Beauty series had a baby with The Hunger Games birthed by H P Proctor, which kind of made me feel very proud.

Retribution_600x900Do you prefer to read within a definite genre like historical romance or fantasy? Or are you happy to wander around a bit and cross some boundaries? I know a lot of my historical readers won’t read my other books, because they know what they like. As a reader, I tend to read a bit of everything, and I’m always willing to try something new. But then I get easily bored as both a reader and a writer.

Do you like to read the latest trends? I’m a bit over billionaires and bikers myself, and I’m waiting to see what’s going to come up next. You never know these days, which is what makes writing a book so exciting. I somehow doubt that darkly romantic tentacled aliens are going to make it big, but an author can hope.

What balance do you prefer? I like my science light and my romance hot.

Cheated out of his exit from the Tribute program, Kai Mexr is forced to return as a trainer for one more year. His trainee, Aled Price, is an idealistic Mitan patriot who Kai struggles not to loathe on sight, and who seems up for any challenge Kai sets him. As Aled learns to give up control and endure the program’s worst, Kai is drawn into an intense sexual game that leaves him wanting more.

But then Aled must fulfill his duty as Tribute. He must endure the Ungrich—or die.

When Aled returns, it takes Kai’s ruthless presence to pull his trainee back from the brink of madness. Surviving the Ungrich makes Aled doubt his blind allegiance to his planet—and to everything else he’d never thought to question. But with Kai at his side, Aled finds a new cause to believe in. And with the help of master trainer Akran and his partner Anna Lee, Aled and Kai forge unbreakable allegiances of blood, sex, and love that could save the entire planet from the Ungrich for good.
