What Is Your Cyborg Name?

by guest blogger, Cynthia Sax

Rage, the hero of my most recent SciFi romance Releasing Rage, is a hunky cyborg. Cyborgs are (normally) manufactured to be warriors. They’re viewed as weapons and are often given model numbers instead of names.

Rage’s model number, for example, is C899321. That is how his human masters refer to him.

cyborgThat ISN’T how other cyborgs refer to him. The cyborgs have given themselves names. These names reflect something core about them. Rage is often angry, infuriated by the injustices against his kind. His buddy, Crash, tends to push the limits of his processors until they ‘crash.’ Intrepid is fearless. Green (I’ll be giving his story for free to newsletter subscribers in December) loves his plant, Windy.

I suspect Steel, the hero of Laurann Dohner’s Kissing Steel, is named that because he is so unbending, so unrelenting… until he meets his heroine. Einstein, the hero of Eve Langlais’ B785, is a science geek cyborg known for his intelligence.

Mina Carter, author of Lyon’s Price, one of my favorite cyborg SciFi romances, shares the thinking behind her hero’s name. “I named him Lyon because he’s a Leo class cyborg. All the classes were named for the signs of the zodiac.”

It’s fitting that cyborgs answer to both their model numbers and their given names. This suits their dual nature, the constant and extremely delicious conflict inside them between their machine sides and their human sides.

If you could give yourself a name that reflected one aspect of yourself, which name would you choose?

About Releasing Rage

Half Man. Half Machine. All Hers.

Rage, the Humanoid Alliance’s most primitive cyborg, has two goals–kill all of the humans on his battle station and escape to the Homeland. The warrior has seen the darkness in others and in himself. He believes that’s all he’s been programmed to experience.

Until he meets Joan.

Joan, the battle station’s first female engineer, has one goal–survive long enough to help the big sexy cyborg plotting to kill her. Rage might not trust her but he wants her. She sees the passion in his eyes, the caring in his battle-worn hands, the gruff emotion in his voice.

When Joan survives the unthinkable, Rage’s priorities are tested. Is there enough room in this cyborg’s heart for both love and revenge?

    • It looks like the naming is going on over on Facebook. So far I’ve seen:

K J Van Houten said “I think I’m choosing Violet — because I just dyed my hair sort of that colour and I’m liking it, lol.”

Ann Victor said “Book (because of my love of reading)”

      I love Ann’s choice!

  1. Overload. As in ‘system overload’ because I try to process to much information at once. Or Tabs for “too many tabs open”.
