Coastal Magic Featured Author KC Burn

It’s here, it’s here!!Exterior

Registration for the 2015 Coastal Magic Convention has begun! If you’re an urban fantasy or paranormal romance reader, you need to be hanging out with us, right on the beach, next February!  Coastal Magic is a super casual, urban fantasy and paranormal romance focused convention in Daytona Beach, FL, February 5-8, 2015. There will be panels, meet & greets with fun themes, and some cool evening activities. There are 225 general registration tickets available, and the featured author list will be close to 60 once everyone is settled! It’s a relatively small shindig, but full of dedicated, enthusiastic people. Everyone will have opportunity to meet and chat with their favorites, and I bet you all find some “new favorites” on the list, as well. 🙂 If you haven’t checked out who’ll be attending yet… go… do that… I’ll wait… Awesome, right!!??

I (along with the other Featured Bloggers) will be hosting some of the featured authors for guest spots and promotional posts in the next few months, so make sure you’re keeping an eye out for those!! My first featured author is a personal favorite of mine. If you’ve been following the blog you’ll recognize her name from my past book recommendations and I’ll be posting about her latest release later this week (Preview: Loved it!). But now…surprise! She’s here with a personal message for everyone thinking of attending.

I’m KC Burn and I’m thrilled to be here at Smart Girls Love Sci-Fi. I write gay romance in a smattering of sub-genres, including sci-fi and paranormal. I love the opportunity to bend the rules of our everyday world in order to make aliens or paranormal beings fit, which is the biggest appeal for me. Trying to develop aliens that are alien AND boinkable is a delightful challenge!

Meeting up with readers and authors who love the same thing is why I’ll be attending the Coastal Magic convention in February, and I can’t wait. I was fortunate enough to attend the first year of the convention, which was so much fun and I made some lifelong memories. Although I’ve never managed to make it to one of huge conventions like Dragoncon, Megacon or Comicon, I have attended large conferences like the Romantic Times one. While I enjoy them, and they certainly have their place, a smaller more intimate event like Coastal Magic is… well… magic.

It’s like having a retreat with tons of friends, but all about books (of the more fantastical variety). It doesn’t matter if you don’t know a soul, if you love paranormal/fantasy/sci-fi books, you’re part of the gang! There’s a sense of camaraderie, a sense of belonging, when surrounded by those who love books, whether they be author or reader.

Despite the fact that meeting strangers tends to give me hives and I’m super anxious about speaking in public, I still love going. Because the fun is more than enough to compensate for my social anxiety, and after a con, no matter how exhausted I am, I am always, always inspired. They breathe new life into my writing, almost as though all those book lovers magnifies my creative sensibilities.

I hope to see you all there – the muse needs a little top up!
