Hope Abounds
Ask anyone who’s even remotely close to me and they’ll tell you I’m annoyingly optimistic. Rarely do I ever get down on myself or on life in general.
Although my character, David, in Wasteland, wouldn’t be pegged as super cheery and optimistic, he’s surprisingly hopeful. Born—over four hundred years ago—into an indentured life as a consequence of something his mother did before he was even conceived would pretty much snuff out any form of hope.
For most people.
David holds onto the hope that he’ll find a way out of the contract binding his soul. Sure, sometimes he struggles. Hope seems so dim at times he gets a little…snarly. Yet he stands firm in his quest, despite how grim his situation appears.
There’s always a glimmer of Hope.
Even in the darkness.
Even in the pain.
It’s just a matter of finding it, which can prove to be very difficult sometimes. For David it’s—

I wish I were more optimistic by nature, but I’ve trained myself, over the years, to mentally talk myself into optimisim. I give myself little mantras and lecture myself to use them. LOL
I was told once, in college, that I was annoyingly energetic in the morning. I think it might have been someone on the tennis team when we had early morning practice. **LOL**

It IS, isn’t it? But we’re strong. We can handle it, right? 🙂
I’ve just completed my first YA novel that took me 2 years to finish -finding time to write when my two sons, 4 and 2, were napping or after they’d gone to bed for the night- and have begun the scary and exciting journey of querying. Waiting for responses from agents is more nail-biting than I ever would’ve imagined. Every time I receive another rejection, boundless optimism keeps me going. Congrats on your accomplishments! It sounds like you’re the kind of person that doesn’t let the negative bring you down. That is truly a blessing in and of itself.

Sorry to be a Negative Nancy, but I try never to get my hopes up because I’m too often disappointed with the results. If I expect the worst, then nothing worse can happen, right? If you think about it, that viewpoint is actually kind of optimistic in a twisted sort of way. 😉

I may be too late for the drawing, but wanted to say hello anyway. Hi!
I am one of those “relentlessly cheerful” people most of the time. My theory is that crap is gonna happen whether I laugh or cry, so I might as well laugh. (Besides, I look terrible when I cry!)
That’s not to say that life doesn’t get to me sometimes, but my overriding philosophy of life is that we’re all exactly where we’re supposed to be (on the path of life, etc.). It helps me remember to accept my world in tough times, so I can look for the benefits/lessons and move on from them a stronger person, in a better position to handle the future.
