What happens if you paint in your sleep?

When artist Paris Sweeny gets out of bed in the middle of the night in a trance, she paints pictures of people who’ve just died. It is all part of the changes that started a year earlier. First the colors around her seemed to change, then she started seeing ghosts. The sleep painting is the most troubling, especially when she begins to paint a murder scene beginning with a single shoe. This development leaves her wrung out and freezing cold to the point of hypothermia. Luckily, Richard Worth, the strong willed millionaire who barges into her life, knows how to get Sweeny all hot and bothered. Now You See Her by Linda Howard is both delightfully romantic and a fascinating puzzle of a suspense.

What I loved about the heroine: Sweeny is utterly inept at functioning in the social world (something I relate to) and seeing ghosts doesn’t help matters. She is also unaware of men and her own appeal—until Richard.

What I loved about the hero: Richard Worth is a fierce protector (Linda Howard’s specialty), but clever enough not to act the alpha in any obvious way. Sweeny would never put up with that. Richard is charming and clever and the perfect knight in shining armor.

Other cool stuff: I really liked the painting angle, something I hadn’t seen done before. Sweeny also has a whole collection of odd talents as an offshoot to her new perception. She’s a wiz at Jeopardy and uses that to prove to the cops that she isn’t crazy—a very funny scene!

  1. This one’s on my keeper shelf, too, Charlie. Linda Howard was one of the authors that really hooked me back into reading for fun… and inspired me to write.

Thanks for reviewing, and reminding me to pull it down and read it again!

    • Hi Ava! There is a lot of Linda Howard on my keeper shelf. Call me primative, but I love those protector heroes. Of course she gives them heroines to rival them.

  2. Ooh! I’ll have to pick this one up. Sounds like a goodie. I’ll have to check and see if it’s in audio format. 🙂

I keep hearing good things about Linda Howard so I’m def looking forward to checking her books out!
